Was favored by builders and contractors for many years for its low thermal conductivity and resistance to melting and burning. As researchers have identified more links between mesothelioma and asbestos exposure, the material is less used. Before this discovery, however, millions of Americans have suffered a severe exposure to harmful substances.
Smoking and Mesothelioma
Smoking is not only linked to mesothelioma, but smokers who are exposed to asbestos have a much greater chance of asbestos lung cancer (as much as 50 to 90 percent) and up to twice the risk of developing mesothelioma.
